The Graduate School of Environmental Studies offers modern multi-disciplinary courses covering key concepts of environmental science, safety, and sustainability at a global scale. The Group of Sustainable Development focuses on a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues.
If you are interested in pursuing your Master’s or Doctoral research in our group, or in applying for a JSPS postdoctoral research scholarship, please check the information below and contact us directly by e-mail. Applicants must have:
A strong background in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or related fields.
Solid hands-on experimental experience in a chemistry or materials science laboratory.
A degree from a major university in your region (or equivalent academic standing).
We do not accept applicants whose academic background lacks substantial chemistry or materials science components.
Priority is given to prospective students planning to enter the Master’s course and continue their education in the Doctoral course.

Please refer to the web page of the Group of Sustainable Development and the Admissions page of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies for the details regarding exam requirements. In brief, there are two entrance exams per year: the first - in the beginning of August, and the second - in late January or early February. TOEFL/TOEIC scores are used for evaluation of the examiner's English proficiency and they must be obtained in advance but not earlier than 2 years before the exam. Past problems of written exams are available online for 2023, 2024, and 2025, years (the pages are in Japanese, click on URLs to download pdf files with problems). We strongly encourage you to contact us (or your prospective supervisors of the Graduate School) before applying for the entrance examination for more details.
